Ela’s Wedding

2 October 2020

On 5th September 2020, Cork South Civil Defence volunteer Ela Klm was married to Salvatore in a small ceremony which took place in Cork City. As a surprise, her colleagues from the Cork South unit organised a surprise guard of honour for her. With the restrictions of Covid-19, two volunteers attended and wished her well once the ceremony had ended. Ela and Salvatore were also presented with a wedding card from the unit to mark the day.

The wedding was live streamed to family and friends back home as restrictions prevented many of them from attending. They had planned for the wedding to take place in May in Sardinia but unfortunately this was cancelled due to the pandemic. With the thought of a second wave, at the last minute, they decided to marry in Ireland.

Speaking of the day, Ela commented, ‘that she was really surprised and delighted that her colleagues could be there on her special day and that she completely appreciated the effort made’. She went on to say, ‘that it is really good to be apart of the Cork South Civil Defence unit and the Civil Defence organisation and that she thinks of it as being apart of a second family’.

All Cork South Civil Defence volunteers wish Ela and Salvatore a long and happy life together.
