What to Expect 

If you follow us, you can expect tweets covering some or all of the following:

  • Press Releases on Civil Defence activities
  • Event information and occasional live coverage of events involving Civil Defence
  • Alerts about new content on our website
  • Other practical information on services available

Who we follow 

If you follow us, we will not automatically follow you back. This is to help our followers identify other Twitter accounts that we are following such as Government Departments and public bodies.

@Replies and Direct Messages 

We welcome feedback from our followers and will try to join the conversation where possible. However, we will not be able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter. The best means of communicating a query to Civil Defence is by availing of various contact options outlined on our website www.civildefence.ie.

Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.

Members of Civil Defence

When uploading any content on any social media platform members of Civil Defence must be aware of the likelihood that comments are viewable by members of the media and the general public regardless of whether your profile is private or otherwise.

DO

  • Follow the same high standards of conduct and behaviour online as would be expected elsewhere.
  • Be careful about the information you share online. If in doubt, leave it out.

DO NOT

  • Do not post any information about Civil Defences dealings with vulnerable people such as casualties or missing persons.
  • Do not post material that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, slanderous, hateful or embarrassing to any other person or entity.
  • Do not attempt to speak, or be interpreted as speaking, on behalf of Civil Defence or the Department of Defence.
  • Do not comment on any issue relating to controversial, sensitive or political matters which would be incompatible with service in Civil Defence.
  • Do not create any social content that could cause Civil Defence to be embarrassed or brought into disrepute.

 Code of Conduct

Civil Defence reserves the right and has absolute discretion to screen, review, filter, edit, refuse or remove without notice any contributions posted on our Twitter account which in our view are, including but not limited to:

  • Comments which include offensive, inappropriate or obscene language or content (including images, videos or links);
  • Threatening, violent, abusive or insulting statements;
  • Personal attacks aimed at Civil Defence staff, volunteers or members of the public;
  • Material infringing on any patent, copyright, database right, trade mark or other intellectual property right of any other person
  • Material which is defamatory of any person;
  • Material breaching the data protection, privacy or confidentiality rights of any person;
  • Material promoting discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;
  • Spam messages

Civil Defence reserves the right to block any user of the Civil Defence Twitter account that breaches the above requirements.
