Clare Civil Defence Receive Civic Reception from Shannon Town Council – December 2013

Thursday 5th December 2013 marked a very proud day for Clare Civil Defence. Members of Shannon Town Council decided unanimously to award a Civic Reception “in recognition of their outstanding work serving communities in County Clare. The councillors noted in particular the work of the volunteers in Civil Defence, who assist with the organisation of the St. Patricks Day parade each year in Shannon.”

The reception was held in the Sean Lemass Public Library in Shannon and a presentation was made to Clare Civil Defence Officer, Liam Griffin by Mayor of Shannon, Cllr Greg Duff. Mayor Duff, spoke in glowing terms about the contribution of Civil Defence in Shannon and throughout County Clare and paid a warm tribute to all members involved. Cllr Duff stated that he was proud to be a former member of Civil Defence and had a good insight into the tremendous work of the organisation throughout the county and beyond.

In accepting the award Clare Civil Defence Officer, Liam Griffin thanked Shannon Town Council for the tremendous honour bestowed on the organisation, adding that the Shannon Unit was one of the strongest in the county. He thanked Instructors and local members present, Noel Carmody, Martin Kelly, Shaun McMahon and Debbie Houlihan for the commitment they have given to Civil Defence in Shannon and elsewhere in the county over many years.

The reception was also attended by Mr. Adrian Kelly, A/Town Manager, Mr. Liam O’Connor, Town Clerk and elected members of Shannon Town Council. Shannon Town council was the third local authority to accord a civic reception to Clare Civil Defence. Previous receptions were accorded by Clare County Council and Ennis Town Council.
