Dublin Rescue – Dún Laoighaire

On Sunday 2 August, an EMT from the Dublin Civil Defence unit demonstrated the professionalism, commitment, and dedication consistently shown by our volunteers.
While providing medical cover for a swim event in Dún Laoghaire as a member of the Boat Unit,  he responded to an incident at the water’s edge on the rocks below the harbour wall. The team was alerted by ground personnel supporting them and the Dublin volunteer, acting as medical lead, disembarked from the vessel and proceeded across the rocks to reach the casualty.
He provided immediate assessment , first aid, and ongoing care until the arrival of the National Ambulance Service paramedic and the RNLI. Working in coordination with the responding agencies, he assisted in the safe transfer of the injured casualty onto a stretcher and their subsequent loading onto the RNLI vessel for transport safely to shore, where care was formally handed over to the ambulance crew.
The Dublin Civil Defence Boat Unit is composed of dedicated volunteers from all across Dublin Civil Defence who come together to provide specialist water-based support at events and emergency incidents throughout the county. Today’s response highlighted the importance of training, teamwork, and the commitment of our volunteers when called upon.
Well done to Declan and all volunteers involved in the response. Their professionalism and dedication are a credit to Dublin Civil Defence and to the volunteer ethos that underpins all of our work.
