Wicklow Civil Defence – Search & Recovery Operation

On Thursday morning, 2nd December Wicklow Civil Defence was activated to assist An Garda Síochána (AGS) in the search for a missing person in the environs of Kilcoole. Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue (DWMR) had conducted an unsuccessful search of Callow Hill, Newtown on Wednesday evening.

Wicklow Civil Defence ACDO, Mike Carroll liaised with AGS and DWMR at 7.30am and the Civil Defence drone team and search responders were mobilised. The drone team was tasked to search a substantial area of open ground and boundaries of the forestry, assisted by a ground team of search responders and the Dublin Civil Defence K9 unit. The search team located the body of the missing person in the early afternoon, notified AGS and transported AGS personnel to the scene by 4 Wheel Drive.

After arriving back to HQ all personnel were debriefed.

On 3rd December Civil Defence received a message of gratitude from the Garda Superintendent of Bray District for the invaluable assistance provided to AGS during the search operation.
