Kilkenny Civil Defence support to Ukrainians seeking protection in Ireland

16 May 2022

During the week of 11th -16th April, Kilkenny Civil Defence pulled off an enormous feat. A beautiful home from scratch to accommodate 100 of our Ukrainian guests was created with the help of the local Kilkenny community and friends following the generosity of the sisters of the John of God convent for allowing their former home to be used.

Kilkenny Civil Defence members were assisted by members of Kilkenny Scouts, Irish Girl Guides, members of the Defence Forces, Kilkenny County Council staff, the Age Friendly Ireland Kilkenny Branch, the IFA, Kilkenny, members of GAA clubs throughout Kilkenny and members of An Garda Síochána Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow. Assistance was provided by maintenance crews,
carpenters, plumbers, electricians, cleaners and caretakers .

Most of all a huge appreciation of the amazing volunteers of Kilkenny Civil Defence who worked around the clock to help bring the project to fruition.

There may not be a bed left in a spare room in the county but rest assured that someone in need really appreciates your generosity.
