Galway Civil Defence "Cry" Awareness Run, May 2013
On Sunday 12th May 2013, seventeen volunteers from Oranmore Civil Defence ran the 10 kilometres from Oranmore Garda Station to Galway City Fire Station.

The run was to raise awareness for CRY, an Irish charity which provides support to the families and friends of those who suffer cardiac death. CRY also help to raise funds for the cardiac screening programme in Tallaght Hopsital which screens those who are most at risk of sudden cardiac death so that they can take early action to prevent their chances of sudden cardiac death.

The unit officer for Oranmore Civil Defence said: "It was fitting that we raised funds for CRY because it is something we should be advocates of. Only last month we trained local people of Lisheenkyl on the use of a community AED, which would be used in the event of sudden cardiac death in the area."

Oranmore Civil Defence would like to thank the marshals from Athenry running club and the members of the Garda Traffic Corps in Oranmore, and their own members providing ambulance cover. All of whom ensured the runner’s safety.
