EMT Training Day – Sligo

25 July 2018

A very successful Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training day was held in Enniscrone in Sligo on Saturday 14th July in conjunction with Sligo Fire Service (Enniscrone Branch).

A number of Doctors from A&E Sligo University Hospital were in attendance. They delivered presentations on various topics , observed the exercise after lunch and acted as the receiving Doctors in the makeshift A&E for the incoming casualties from the incident.

Civil Defence EMT’s from Donegal, Cavan, Mayo , Roscommon and Sligo units took part with Sligo EFR’s acting as casualties. Mark Dixon from University of Limerick made a presentation on Spinal injury management past / present / future. All volunteers enjoyed working alongside the Fire Service personnel and the incident was made as realistic as possible with the fire brigade using their cutting equipment to assist in extricating the casualties from the crashed vehicles.

Sligo plan on hosting further EMT training days for the region in September and November this year.
