Louth Search Operation

Louth Civil Defence were requested by the Gardai on Thursday 30th May to assist in search operations in Dunleer, Co Louth. 17 volunteers spent several days searching the area assisted by members of the Defence Forces and Coastguard. Civil Defence were stood down on the evening of Sunday 3rd June.

Civil Defence assists in exhumation of British Soldier

The Civil Defence All-Terrain Vehicle (Hagglund) and a crew of three Dublin Civil Defence Volunteers assisted colleagues from the Clare Civil Defence Unit in the exhumation of a British Soldier executed almost 100yrs ago. The Hagglund team transported various agencies over difficult terrain and worked closely with Clare Civil Defence in this historic exhumation.


Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2018 – 60th Military Pilgrimage

70 Civil Defence members will leave Ireland on Thursday 17th May as part of the 60th annual International Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes. This years pilgrimage from 17th – 22nd May will celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Lourdes apparitions.


Dublin 1916 Commemoration Medal Presentation

On Monday evening the 14th May, 54 Dublin Civil Defence Volunteers were presented with their 1916 Commemoration Medals in Fingal County Council Chambers. The medals were presented by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr Mary McCamley, CEO Paul Reid, Aidan Dillon Department of Defence and Assistant Civil Defence Officer Fergus Byrne. Congratulations to all.

Louth Mock Road Traffic Collision Exercise

Louth Civil Defence took part in a mock road traffic collision with the Defence Forces and Louth Fire & Rescue.  This exercise was closely watched by students from SRC Banbridge.  The scenario was a military cash in transit convoy involved in a t-bone style collision.
