Meath Civil Defence Awards Ceremony – May 2013
Director General, Bill Smith and Meath County Manager, Brendan McGrath attended an awards ceremony on Friday 17th May at which over 140 certificates and awards were presented to volunteers in the county.

The awards included CFR Community and Advanced certificates, OFA, FETAC and EFR certificates in the Casualty service. Certificates were also presented for ‘Food Safety & You’ as well as Critical Incident Stress Management and Instructor certificates in Casualty, Rope Rescue and Field Search skills.

Three volunteers received 10- year service medals, three unit leaders and one assistant unit leader positions were filled and eight volunteers were promoted to 3rd Officer rank as well as two to Commander rank. The County Manager made a presentation to Aiden Hanna who recently took up the post of ACDO in Dublin. Aidan had spent ten years with Meath Civil Defence, most of which were at the rank of Commander.

Civil Defence Officer, Michael Fitzsimons made a presentation to the County Manager who will shortly take up the post of Manager in Galway City Council and thanked him for his tremendous support to Civil Defence as Director of Service over many years and as acting County Manager for the past nine months.

Both the Director General and County Manager were fulsome in their praise for the dedicated service of the volunteers in Meath and thanked the large attendance for their continued commitment to the organisation.
