Wicklow Missing Person Search

On Thursday 16th March Wicklow Civil Defence was tasked to provide assistance to the Gardaí in a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Arklow area.

Wicklow Civil Defence had a search team on site at 5pm, within an hour and a half of the call-out. Further teams arrived shortly thereafter and were deployed to search the immediate area.

During a meeting of An Garda Síochána, Wicklow Civil Defence and Mountain Rescue, news was received of a possible sighting of the missing person. By this time daylight was fading fast and the air temperature was beginning to drop significantly. Personnel and a Wicklow Civil Defence 4X4 vehicle were dispatched immediately to the site of the possible sighting. Within minutes it was established the missing person was well and speaking with the recovery team. The 84 year old female was brought by Civil Defence members to a waiting National Ambulance Service Ambulance for a medical check.

Chief  Superintendent John Paul Quirke and Search Manager, Sergeant Pat Carroll praised and thanked the Civil Defence crews for their prompt response and professionalism.
