Wexford Presentation Awards Night

Wexford Civil Defence held their annual Presentation Awards in Wexford County Council on Saturday 16th November 2024. The event was attended by Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Pip Breen, Chief Executive, Mr. Eddie Taaffe and Director of Services, Ms. Carolyne Godkin, invited guests and Volunteers from Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross and Wexford Units. The event was very family focused to recognise the contribution family makes to volunteers attending for training and duties.
The Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Pip Breen commended the volunteers on their dedication to community assistance stating he had seen at first hand during both the Gorey Market House Festival and Fleadh Cheoil 2024.
Chief Executive paid tribute to Civil Defence volunteers on their contribution to community within Wexford, as a valuable service of Wexford County Council.
Director of Services Carolyn Godkin congratulated the volunteers on the number of training and community events covered during 2024. Acknowledged the work completed during the Fleadh by Civil Defence Units, Wexford Order of Malta and Red Cross. The important work carried out by Civil Defence Officer, Peter O’Connor as chairman of the Southeast Emergency Services group, and acknowledged the additional funding by the Civil Defence College for the procurement of a new Shallow Water Rescue boat and all weather drone.
Long Service Medals were presented to Sinead Furlong ACDO for 30 years’ service, Attracta Morrissey and Patricia Nolan received medals for 20 years’ Service and Volunteers Jonathan Gethings, Ewa Pienkos, and Jordan Mc Grath received 10 year service medals.
Several volunteers also received promotions, Jonathan Gethings promoted to Leader, Charles Parnell Promoted to Second Officer, Tony Forte to First Officer and Anne Browne promoted to Commander.
Certificated and achievement awards were presented to 57 volunteers in recognition of training course completed during the year.
