Search & Rescue Operation, Gort, Co Galway

On Monday evening 24th February, Galway City Civil Defence Unit was activated for a missing person search in the south Galway area. Teams from Ballinasloe and Loughrea sub units also mobilized to assist the City unit.
Clare Civil Defence volunteers hastily responded to a call for assistance from their colleagues in Galway Civil Defence. Two drone teams and two land search teams were dispatched to the area close to Coole Park in Gort, Co Galway. Teams began searching the dense and difficult terrain. Shortly before arrival of the Garda Helicopter, the Clare Civil Defence drone spotted a heat source in dense forestry about 150 metres from the closest pathway. A SARDA team member and Civil Defence volunteers made their way to the location of the heat source. After a short search, they could hear the missing person calling out for help.
The teams located the missing person person safe and well with his two dogs. He was assessed by Galway Civil Defence medics and transported back to his family.
