Roscommon Civil Defence – Annual Awards Night

On Friday April 7th Roscommon Civil Defence held their annual Awards Night in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon Town. There were certificates awarded to the volunteers on the night for various disciplines, a number of volunteers received their 10 Year Service Medals, Derek Nolan received the 20 Year Service Medal. Special guests that were in attendance on the night were Cllr Tony Ward, Chairman of Roscommon County Council Roisín McGuire, Civil Defence College, Mr. Eugene Cummins, CE Roscommon County Council and John Tobin who was the first man to ascend Croagh Patrick in a wheeled chair. Cllr Tony Ward, Chairman of Roscommon County Council and Mr. Eugene Cummins were very warmly welcomed by the volunteers on the night, during the speeches Cllr. Ward and Mr. Cummin’s both reiterated their full support to the good work of the volunteers of Roscommon Civil Defence which is led Mr. Ray Dunne, CDO. John Tobin and his mother Ann made presentations to Roscommon Civil Defence for the support and assistance in helping John who is a wheelchair user to achieve his lifelong dream of ascending Croagh Patrick. Roscommon Civil Defence wish to thank all of our loyal volunteers and instructors for all of the hard work and preparation that goes into training and serving our community and county throughout the year.
