Regional Exercises 2012 – Clare, 6th October 2012
Clare Civil Defence hosted the fourth of the 2012 Regional Exercises on Saturday 6th October in the environs of Our Lady’s Hospital, Ennis. The exercise incorporated five competitive sites comprising:
· Casualty/Rescue – Our Lady’s Hospital Wards
· AFS & Flooding Tasks – Our Lady’s Hospital Grounds
· Team Task – Our Lady’s Hospital Grounds
· Footdrill – Car Park adjacent to Our Lady’s Hospital
· Communications Task – Our Lady’s Hospital Grounds
Galway, Limerick County, Tipperary North and Tipperary South units competed. At the end of an Exercise which tested and showcased the capabilities and skills of the competitors the Tipperary North team emerged victorious. Presentations were made to the winning team at a Presentation Dinner in the Templegate Hotel, Ennis.
Clare Civil Defence members provided welfare and catering arrangements for all involved throughout the day. A total of Seventy Six members from the Clare Civil Defence unit were involved on the day.
The competitions were set to a very high standard and all teams performed their tasks in a very diligent and professional manner. The day’s events concluded with a visit from the Irish Coast Guard’s Helicopter “Rescue 115”, which is based at Shannon Airport. The helicopter landed at a playing field adjacent to the competition site and stayed for over an hour. All teams were afforded an opportunity to inspect the helicopter from outside and inside. Other agencies involved included the Reserve Defence Forces, HSE Ambulance Service and Clare Fire and Rescue Service.
