Re-Dedication of St Mel’s Cathedral Longford

Longford Civil Defence assisted by Offaly Civil Defence provided Ambulance and First Aid cover at the official re-dedication of the recently refurbished St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford. The Cathedral which was completely destroyed by fire on Christmas Eve 2009 was opened to the public at Christmas 2014.
On Sunday 17th May the congregation which included President Michael D Higgins and approximately 1500 invited guests saw the building rededicated and blessed. Over 20 Longford and Offaly Civil Defence Volunteers were on duty at the event and it was also the first duty for Longford’s recently acquired Ambulance.
