New vehicles for Civil Defence

20 June 2019

In July 2018 the Department of Defence applied for and was approved an allocation of €500,000 from the Dormant Accounts fund to go towards the upgrading of the Civil Defence fleet.  The business case made to the Department of Community and Rural Development centred around the fact that many of the activities carried out by Civil Defence during last years severe weather events took place in rural, isolated areas and in disadvantaged areas of the large urban centres.

The funding will cover the cost of procuring 16 Ford Ranger Crewcab Pickup vehicles.

The 16 Civil Defence Units that will qualify for new vehicles under this scheme are:

Cavan, Clare, Cork West, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo and Wexford.
