A major missing persons search exercise was held on Wednesday 17th August at Gurteen Agriculture College in Co Tipperary. This joint exercise with An Garda Siochana was run by Civil Defence. The participants were told to report to Roscrea and had no knowledge of the venue until the last minute. The ‘missing student’ was found alive and well after a 4 hour search. 40 volunteers took part in the exercise. They included volunteers from Cork West, Cork South, Sligo, Meath and Monaghan Units. The volunteers stayed overnight at Gurteen and participated in further exercises on this morning, Thursday 18th August.
