Meath Civil Defence – Search and Recovery Operation – February 2013
Meath Civil Defence was tasked by an Garda Siochána at 07.51hrs. on Sunday 3rd February for a search of the river Boyne in Trim following a sighting of a person struggling in the water by a jogger at 07.40hrs. Civil Defence Officer Michael Fitzsimons immediately tasked a boat crew and search dog team to the scene. First response was on scene at 08.30hrs followed quickly by the boat team. The search continued throughout the day and was joined by a kayak team and bank search teams from Meath Civil Defence. A total of twenty two Civil Defence volunteers participated during the day and were joined by the Garda Water Unit and other voluntary water recovery teams from the area. At the request of the Gardaí, Civil Defence Officer Michael Fitzsimons is acting as search coordinator with all of the voluntary search organisations. The search is on-going with between four and six teams on the water each day.
