Lough Mask Search & Recovery

On the evening of 1st June Mayo Civil Defence was activated by the Irish Coastguard and An Garda Síochána to respond to an incident at Lough Mask, Tourmakeady after it was reported that a young boy had entered the water.
Civil Defence responded and arrived to the scene with a search team, boat and drone equipment.
A major search commenced involving the Irish Coastguard, Rescue 118 (Sligo), Rescue 115 (Shannon), the Westport Unit, An Garda Síochána, HSE, NAS, ICRR (Mayo), Corrib Mask Rescue, Gráinne Uaile Sub Aqua Team and Civil Defence and continued until darkness fell.
Searching recommenced at first light on Tuesday morning 2nd June, resulting in the recovery of a body from the water.
The Mayo Civil Defence Unit was supported by colleagues from the Roscommon Unit, who provided a boat and drone support, as required. Minister Paul Kehoe, TD expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for their professionalism and efforts during a particularly difficult operation.
Civil Defence expresses hearlfelt sympathies to the family of the young boy on their terrible loss. May he Rest in Peace.
