Kilkenny River Recovery

Kilkenny Civil Defence activated 12 volunteer members, including a boat crew of four, in the early hours of Saturday morning 16th January to assist the Gardaí in the search for a person reported having entered the River Nore in Kilkenny City. Two boat crews were mobilised and searched the river with the assistance of the Coast Guards, Rescue 117 and the Fire Service. All the agencies searched the area until 5am when the search was stood down.

At 9am on Saturday morning Kilkenny Civil Defence resumed the search with the assistance of the Gardai Helicopter and the local Dive Club. At 11.45am the body of a young male was located and recovered by the Kilkenny Civil Defence boat crew.

Kilkenny Civil Defence was thanked for their assistance by the family members and the Gardaí.
