Kildare Civil Defence – Search and Recovery, January 2012
9 January 2012
Kildare Civil Defence Search & Rescue Unit was activated at 10pm on Tuesday 3rd January in response to a call from Naas Gardaí requesting assistance in searching for a missing woman in the Kilcullen Area. 10 Volunteers made their way to Kilcullen with a number of vehicles. The search was called off at 11.30 pm. Gardaí requested that the ESB at the Poulaphouca Reservoir curtail the amount of water being released into the River Liffey to allow the flood water to recede. The search resumed at 8.30 am on Wednesday morning, 4th January.
By 8.30 am on Wednesday morning the flood water had receded and Kildare Civil Defence Boat Crew launched the boat. Civil Defence personnel also searched along the banks of the river. Kildare Civil Defence Welfare Unit also provided welfare support at the Kilcullen Canoeing Club for all personnel involved in the search. At approximately 11.30 am the body of the missing women was recovered by the Garda Divers.
Kildare Civil Defence had a total of 20 personnel assisting the Gardaí during the course of the search.
