Kerry Civil Defence – Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle – July 2013
17 July 2013
Kerry Civil Defence participated with the Order of Malta and the Irish Red Cross in providing medical cover for the ring of Kerry Charity Cycle event which took place on Saturday 6th July 2013. The cycle is the largest charity event in Munster with over 10,000 cyclists completing the 112 miles of the Ring of Kerry circuit. The cycle officially started at 6am and finished at approximately 8pm. Civil Defence had three Medical Centres in operation with 12 doctors, 10 Ambulances, 4 x 4WD Jeeps, 11 first-aid posts and a Communication Centre. It was Kerry Civil Defence’s first official duty using the Tetra Radios and it was a huge improvement in comparison to the previous years when the analogue communication system was in use.
The Ring Of Kerry Cycle Committee donated 4 Hybrid Bicycles to Kerry Civil Defence for their huge effort and commitment to make this charity event a success – over €800,000 was collected last year for local charities in the community..
