Dublin Civil Defence Welfare Service Operation – January 2014

Dublin Fire Service requested assistance from Dublin Civil Defence on Saturday 25th January to provide welfare cover at the extensive fire in a recycling plant in Ballymount, Dublin which necessitated fire fighter presence for a prolonged period.
The Dublin Civil Defence Welfare Unit took up position with the Catering Van at 12.15pm providing hot drinks and sandwiches for up to 80 Dublin Fire Service personnel. Later in the evening a hot meal was provided for those covering the evening shifts. The Welfare Unit was in position until 12.30am having left hot drinks and sandwiches on site for the night shift personnel. From Sunday 26th January the Welfare Unit was in position from 9.30am to 11pm. In addition Civil Defence emergency lighting sets were made available on both nights.
A total of 30 Civil Defence Volunteer members were on duty over the two-day operation.
