Donegal Radiation Monitoring

Civil Defence in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency carried out its annual Radiation monitoring exercise on Sunday 24th of November 2019.
Donegal Civil Defence were activated at 8.30am on Sunday morning 24th November, when tasked by The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) to activate their personnel and take a Soil Sample, a Grass Sample and background Radiation reading using Graetz Meters, from the townlands of Meencrumlin and Templenew areas of Donegal and await further instruction.
The radiation readings and associated co-ordinates were transmitted verbally and though the use of the text messages system on the TETRA Radio Communications Civil Defence National Talk Group. Soil and grass samples were securely stored and labeled and taken to Sligo for onward transportation to the national collection point.
