Offaly Civil Defence – Search & Rescue, August 2013

7 August 2013

At 8.45 am on Monday 5th August Offaly Civil Defence was contacted by Edenderry Garda Station to render assistance in relation to a missing 72 year old male as a search the previous day was unsuccessful.

A team of 17 Civil Defence personnel were mobilized and met up with the Gardaí for a brief and search plan at Edenderry Garda Station. Following on from the brief a search H.Q. was established at the local GAA grounds, manned by Gardaí and Civil Defence. At this point Civil Defence teams were allocated a search area. Each team took the lead and were joined by civilian searchers. After approximately three hours the man was located. He required medical intervention and this was delivered by Civil Defence members on site. An Ambulance was called to transport the casualty to Tullamore Regional Hospital as he was at this stage missing for approximately 25 hours.

A de-brief followed at the search H.Q. and Civil Defence were thanked by the locals and the Gardaí for the assistance provided.
