Kildare Major Incident Exercise, July 2026

On Saturday 11th July Kildare Civil Defence participated in an exercise to evaluate response in supporting the Principal Response Agencies during a Major Incident.

Scenario

At approx. 09.15hrs a Forty Foot articulated lorry plunged off a bridge onto the railway line between Monasterevin and Kildare town, crashing into a train on the railway track on the main Dublin to Cork line.

Emergency services are mobilised following multiple 999/112 calls. Multiple persons reported.

Kildare Civil Defence is requested to assist the Principal Response Agencies under the Framework for Major Emergency Management by providing:

  • Casualty care support
  • Search and rescue assistance
  • Welfare support
  • Communications support
  • Logistical assistance
  • Lighting and scene support
