Dublin Civil Defence Sever Weather Response 6th - 9th January 2010
During the severe weather conditions, ambulance back-up support, under the command of Comdt. Bill Powderly, was provided to the Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB).
Wed 6th January:
19.30:
Two 4X4 ambulances were put on stand by
19.35:
Request from DFB to assist in Grace O’Malley Drive in Howth where access to a casualty with a broken
ankle was not possible. Stand-by ambulance responded, carried DFB crew to location of casualty, and transferred all DFB ambulance. Casualty was delivered to Beaumount Hospital by DFB.
Thurs 7th January:
18.30:
Call received from DFB to assist a heavily pregnant mother with children who were stranded in a car in the Phoenix Park. 4X4 ambulance responded, towed car out of the snow, and escorted the family home to Blanchardstown.
Fri 8th January:
Two 4X4 ambulances on Stand-by at HQ until 23.00. Crews continued on call status at home but no requests for turn out received.
Sat 9th January:
Request received from HSE to assist with a dialysis patient. Responded with assistance from Comdr
Catherine Donaghy and ambulance crew. Casualty removed to Beaumont Hospital.
Request received form HSE to assist with casualty in Killiney. Ambulance responded but was stood-down enroute.
17.30:
Request received form DFB to assist in St. Margaret’s Estate, behind Dublin Airport. Ambulance and 4X4 Jeep responded but Gardaí had already accessed the casualty so assistance was not required.
