Nurses Strike at Sligo General Hospital

Sligo Civil Defence were placed on standby for Ambulance assistance by the HSE Ambulance control on 21st May the day of commencement of the nurses strike. A crew of four made themselves available between the hours of 8am and 5pm but no calls were received.

Sligo Civil Defence were put on standby by the HSE Ambulance control on Sunday 24th May in order to be available to assist in the transfer of patients from Sligo General Hospital to other healthcare facilities to reduce the number of patients requiring care at Sligo General, if required. Five volunteers made themselves available for the duration of the standby call, which lasted for three days. Talks took place, which averted the strike for the time being pending the outcome of the ballot put to the nursing staff.
