Lourdes 2009
Over 30 members of Civil Defence travelled to Lourdes on May 13th as part of the 51st International Military Pilgrimage.
Civil Defence personnel provided assistance to the Military at the Marian Torchlight Procession, at the Anglophone Grotto Mass and at the wreath-laying ceremony at the town’s cemetery. Several members also provided assistance to wheelchair-bound pilgrims during the course of the Pilgrimage.
Civil Defence Chaplain, Fr. Sean McDermott celebrated a Mass for Civil Defence Members during the Pilgrimage. Following the Mass, two Civil Defence Members, Mr. Liam Handy and Ms. Fionnuala Milner, were awarded Lourdes Medals in recognition of Civil Defence service during three pilgrimages.
