Clare Civil Defence - Serch for Missing Man, Quin, Ennis 30th & 31st December 2009

On 30th December 2009 Clare Civil Defence were activated by An Gada Siochána to assist in the search for a local elderly farmer, who was reported to be missing from his home near the village of Quin approximately six miles from Ennis. Within a very short period of time a total of fourteen Civil Defence members were assembled and travelled to Quin arriving on site at about 10.30 pm. Civil Defence was joined in the search by Ennis Gardai and the Coastguard Helicopter, based at Shannon.

The search was successfully concluded at approximately at 1am on 31st December when the man was located on his land suffering from minor injuries. The man was transported to hospital by the Coastguard Helicopter and has since made a full recovery. The Gardai and Coastguard as well as family and neighbours of the man were highly complimentary of the work carried out by Civil Defence members on the ground in difficult underfoot conditions. It was a source of great relief to all involved when the man was located in such a short time frame, given the arctic temperatures.
