ANNUAL REPORT 2007

I am pleased to present this Annual Report, which deals mainly with the progress and activities of the Civil Defence Board during the period dating from January 2007 to December 2007.
The Strategic Plan 2007-2010 was approved and launched by the Minister for Defence, Mr Willie O’ Dea T.D. This plan will be the agenda of the Civil Defence Board who are committed to ensure that Civil Defence will continue to be an effective professional voluntary service in support of the emergency services. The national implementation of the Major Emergency Management Framework will have a huge impact on the organisation’s delivery of services over the next three years. I am satisfied that the Plan will enable the organisation to meet this challenge.
In addition to maintaining an efficient organisation the Board will promote the development of close working relationships with statutory bodies and other voluntary organisations.
Dedicated media training provided to each strand of the organisation, namely, Board members, staff of the Board, Civil Defence Officers and senior Volunteers, proved most effective and beneficial. The fruits of the training were realised during the course of the year, by way of media coverage, both print and televised devoted to Civil Defence activities.
The Annual Report reflects on the progression and the focus for the future of the organisation. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of my colleagues on the Board, the Committees and staff of the Board, Civil Defence Officers, and Civil Defence Volunteers.
