I am pleased to present this Annual Report, which deals mainly with the progress and activities of the Civil Defence Board during the period dating from January 2006 to December 2006.

The new state of the art National Civil Defence Headquarters at Benamore, Roscrea was officially opened by the Minister for Defence. The impressive purpose built complex will accommodate upwards of twenty-five staff, and will see hundreds of Civil Defence Instructors trained at the Headquarters annually.

Other important developments during 2006 included the launch of the new Civil Defence work-wear, publication of a Civil Defence Code of Conduct and the preparation of a Media Policy for the organisation.

These are challenging times for Civil Defence and there are more challenges ahead but I am confident that the organisation, as always, will rise to meet those challenges with the co-operation of the Minister, Secretary General and Department of Defence.

The excellent progress made during 2006 reflects on the efforts of the Committees and staff of the Board, Civil Defence Officers, and Civil Defence Volunteers.
